“It took several minutes for Wyatt’s plaintive entreaties to calm Dee’s anger.
\nEventually Dee exclaimed, “I sent a message telling you we’d be arriving this evening, did I not? Therefore, there is no excuse for not warning your camp guards. My friends could have been injured by your guards’ reckless shots. Or I could have injured your guards! Really, Wyatt – I expected a little more consideration from you.”
\nHe threw himself into Wyatt’s camp chair, the only one in the whole tent, and sat glowering while the others stood in an awkward silence, shifting from foot to foot.
\nEventually, Kat tentatively asked, “Should we…you know…?”
\nDee glanced at her and nodded briefly, his eyes glinting like wet coal.
\nKat faced Wyatt, took a breath, and said as firmly as she could manage. “Sir Thomas, we have proof that Sir George Harper is a spy for Renard, calling himself Pelham.”
\nWyatt barely reacted, but Harper took a rapid step back and reached for his sword.
\nJack was standing behind him and had been waiting for this moment.
